All About Me
DREAM:
I dream of keeping Hudson Valley NY history alive. Inspired by hearing tales of the past at the kitchen table in the Trail’s End Farm house in Milan, NY, I savor home cooking, hear the voices of our past and embrace family tradition.
BUILD:
To build my mission, I talk to strangers and discover the stories of common people - past and present- who impacted their community in ordinary and sometimes extraordinary ways. Perhaps I hear the words “when I was a child” or “I think there is a gravestone in my front yard”, and then I am on a mission in the field or in the archives.
GROW:
Regardless of whether I discuss history at Community Day, create a YouTube video, present, write a blog post or a book, I am Marking the Moment.
FOLLOW MARKING THE MOMENT to join my mission!

Schultz Family: Rhinebeck and Milan
Beginning with Christian Otto Schultz's arrival on the Ship "Hope", he and his descendants have served their country and their community. The first four of the seven videos range from "Jacob Schultz: A Family Saga" that provides a brief history of Christian Otto Schultz's beginnings and traces the life and contributions of his son Jacob Schultz and selected descendants to three short clips that depict the area of Rhinebeck where Christian Otto Schultz settled. After scanning over a 1,000 Schultz documents for the Rhinebeck Historical Society, I had some fun recording "#1 From the Archives: Men's Fashion in the 1840s". After discovering the fascinating Google Books Ebook "Travels on An Inland Voyage" by Christian Schultz, Jr., I started reading. Whether listening or reading, I recommend having a map handy to imagine that you are traveling with Schultz in the earliest 19th century!
Check out my other Schultz projects: You never know what stories you will find in ancient documents!
"From Love Affair to Trouble" (published 11/13/21) is the story that Christian Schultz told when he witnessed the actions of young lovers. https://markingthemoment.squarespace.com/people
Scandal, the gold rush, international fame and travel and survival on a sinking ship do not capture all of the excitement in "Passages: Madame Anna Bishop & Martin Schultz" (published 5/15/22) , "Update: Passages" (published 5/22/22) and "The Mystery of Rock City's Native Son: Martin Schultz" (published 10/26/21). Check them all out at https://markingthemoment.squarespace.com/people After reading the blog about her gravestone and her life, I hope you will consider donating to my Go Fund Me Page to support the purchase of a gravestone for "Anna the Indomitable". https://gofund.me/ab2cbed8
